Ransomware is picking up folks!

A friend texted me the other day. He said: ā€œHey Wes, have you seen this?ā€

ā€œSo yeah, I have seen this,ā€ I told him. I remember reading about this attack, feeling a bit of pain for those involved and moved on. And then it struck me.

He works there. I had forgotten. So I quickly replied: ā€œYeah, so howā€™s that going?ā€

He went on to tell me something shocking. Itā€™s not going. For weeks. Theyā€™ve been out. HARD OUT. For weeks. A major healthcare corporation. Just completely out of service. And heā€™s sitting here just twiddling his thumbs. Not a thing to do. Because thereā€™s not a thing he can do with everything being offline.

Thatā€™s ransomware. Thatā€™s what weā€™re defending against. Your employees being out of work. Revenue lost. A supply chain threatened. Lawsuits abound. And in the case of healthcare? Lives at stake.

This is real, folks. Are you communicating that with your decision makers?

Maybe Fred Was Right After All?

Fred Voccola, the famed not a d%&k CEO of Kaseya might have been right after all. A month ago, Fred accused his rival ConnectWise of being a stagnant organization.

Huh. Most of us thought he was crazy. Isnā€™t ConnectWise for sale? How could the darling of the industry and the eye of large private equity acquisition possibly be stagnant?

Well, according to sources within multiple private equity organizations, ConnectWise has no suitors left willing to pony up to the offered price. So what does that mean?

I still think ConnectWise is a wonderful company and full of amazing people. But perhaps things are not as stellar as they might seem. We shall have to see what news unfolds over the months to come. And Iā€™d love to hear what you think as well.

A Cyber New Player Enters the Fray

One thing that has always vexed me. The number one enterprise EDR in the market has arguably been Crowdstrike for the better part of a decade. All my enterprise security friends use them. (Obligatory: there are other amazing and effectual EDRs out there like my friends at Huntress.)

So why has Crowdstrike never really come into the MSP channel in any effectual way? Iā€™m not sure. But one thing I know: theyā€™ve needed the right partner to help them in this journey.

As of this week, I think that partner has been found.

Pax8 this week announced a strategic partnership with Crowdstrike. Ok, now that is interesting. Like, game changing levels of interesting. What happens here? Will Pax8 enter the competitive fold with all the other MSP behemoths like Kaseya and Connectwise?

Will Crowdstrike find its first larger scale success landing with Pax8? Iā€™m not sure. But one thing is clear: a new entrant has entered the fray. And Pax8 is never one to bet against. Iā€™m eager to see where this goes.
